Problem

Low-resolution source media looks poor on large displays, especially when upscaled to fill grid cells on 4K or 5K screens.

Solution

AI Super Resolution upscales video frames up to 4x using Apple’s VideoToolbox machine learning pipeline. Processing runs on the Neural Engine for efficient, real-time enhancement. Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or later.

UI Flow

  1. Open Settings > Video > AI Super Resolution.
  2. Select the upscale factor: 2x or 4x.
  3. Enable per-cell or global application.
  4. Low-resolution cells are enhanced in real time during playback.

Pro only.

Platforms

Requires Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 26+.

Known Limitations

  • 4x upscaling on large grids (16+ cells) may exceed Neural Engine throughput; consider 2x for dense layouts.
  • Not available on Intel Macs.
