VJ Mode
Problem
Live performers need grid playback synchronized to music tempo so that visual transitions feel intentional and rhythmic rather than random.
Solution
VJ Mode locks cell advances and transitions to a detected or manually set BPM. Beat detection uses FFT analysis of the system audio input. Tap Tempo (Ctrl+Space) lets performers override or set BPM manually when detection is unreliable.
UI Flow
- Enable VJ Mode from the Performance menu or toolbar toggle.
- FlexGrid begins FFT analysis on the active audio input.
- Detected BPM displays in the toolbar; cell advances snap to beat boundaries.
- Press Ctrl+Space repeatedly to tap in a manual tempo override.
- Combine with Scenes (Cmd+1-9) for instant preset recall during a set.
Tier Availability
Pro only.
Known Limitations
- Beat detection accuracy depends on audio input quality; complex polyrhythmic material may confuse the FFT.
- Tap Tempo requires at least 4 taps to lock a stable BPM.
